New Notes (3/17/91)
1) /NOZIP /IMPORT of a QWK bbs was leaving junk in the work directory
if "hide work directory" was not on. Fixed.
New Notes (3/15/91)
1) Fixed bug that was causing a runtime error 204 whenever using the
import menu inside the reader...this apparently was overlooked to
this point due to the stunning usefulness of the automatic import/
export routines...
New Notes (3/11/91)
1) Fixed "bug" that occured when you /NOZIP /IMPORTED a BBS *AND*
had a .DL or .QWK file for that BBS in the download directory
with autoimport turned on.
New Notes (3/10/91)
1) Fixed bug that caused a error 103 when importing a .QWK packet
/NOZIP.
2) Killing a block now also disposes it from memory...this should take
care of more problems with macros and block commands.
3) ANSI now recognizes decimal 250 as a escape character. Any more,
.QWK guys? What's wrong with 27?!?! <grin>
New Notes (3/3/91)
1) Internal ANSI viewer will now recognize a decimal 96 as well as
decimal 27 as being an ANSI "escape" character. This is to provide
support for the weird convention that QNET and RNET have of changing
ANSI codes.
2) Hiding a block now also disposes it from memory. This should take
care of a variety of problems involving block copies/automatic replies.
3) Fixed a bug that would cause the tag line engine to sometimes lock up
when there were no tag lines in the tag line engine and it was set to
cycle through tags.
4) Tag line format changed slightly so that 50 character tag lines would
still fit in under the 72 character limit for megamail BBS's.
5) Believe I fixed the runtime error that was occurring when /NOZIPping
/IMPORTING a .QWK BBS.
New Notes (2/28/91)
1) Fixed "time bug" that was mis-displaying the time on the Automatic
BBS Reset window when the minutes were less than 10.
New Notes (2/25/91)
1) Block is now cleared when saving a message, so that the (enter)
command is not confused by any text the remains marked in the
reply. (This should fix the bug where the enter key was starting
a reply right after a reply was saved.)
2) Fixed a bug that was causing Alt-X not to work sometimes.
New Notes (2/18/91)
1) Documentation for version 2.10 is enclosed for the first time.
2) Block move now unmarks the block that is moved, similar to block
copy. This fixes a nasty bug with repeated block moves.
3) Fixed bug that was causing things to get weird if you tried to
do a (R)ead of tagged messages from the Alt-L listing when there
were no messages tagged.
New Notes (12/10/90)
1) Fixed bug that was preventing a block read of a read-only file.
2) Fixed bug that was causing the reader to error out when importing
a .QWK packet with the /NOZIP parameter.
3) Removed debugging message that would pop up from time to time that
said "Into ListToQScanTags".
4) Fixed bug that was causing the last two characters of a JH tag to
be truncated if and only if the tag line was 50 characters long.
If it was 49, one would be truncated, and if it was shorter than
49, none would be truncated.
New Notes (12/9/90)
1) Fixed famous "alt-t" bug in listing. This bug would rear its
hideous face whenever one tagged all of the messages in the
Conference/Subject/Thread listing and then untagged a bunch of
them when and only when the Conference/Subject/Thread listing
was set to not show subjects. What was happening, in essence,
was that the Alt-T Tag All command was tagging BBS's, Conferences,
and subjects, and then the poor user was untagging the BBS's and
the conferences, but never untagging the subjects, since they
didn't show on the screen. The solution was to simply modify
the Tag All function so that it would only effect objects that
are currently being displayed. (ie only BBS's and Conferences
in the usual scenario.)
2) Fixed famous "Can't Kill Last Message In Base" bug. Stupid
error on my part.
New Notes (12/8/90)
1) Fixed bug that was causing messages to not have a final carriage
return at the end of them when tag lines were turned off. This
was apparently causing problems for some other readers.
2) Fixed a bug that was causing the reader to fail to properly
identify a .QWK BBS when exporting via the /EXPORT command
line parameter.
New Notes (10/10/90)
1) If you preface a dos hotkey with STAY:, the screen will not be
cleared when it shells out. Note that the STAY: must come after
the * if a * is used.
2) Pressing A while reading a message will display the message in
"ANSI mode", which is full-screen, with built-in ANSI
interpretation.
3) Pressing A while reading any news screen, bulletin, file list,
etc., will display the file in "ANSI mode", which is full-screen,
with built-in ANSI interpretation.
4) Increased the overlay buffer size in an attempt to prevent the
delay that testers had been complaining about when the reader was
loading.
5) Instead of reseting the JH tag after every message, it is now only
reset when you press Alt-T. In other words, if you select a tag
using JH, the reader will continue using it until you select
another tag using JH or you hit Alt-T (for tag lines).
6) Fixed bug that would allow user to kill the last message in the
base, thus causing a fatal error.
New Notes (10/8/90)
We're getting near a release, hopefully.
1) (RE) and RE: were not being stripped from the subject lines in
packets from megamail doors - only in .QWK packets. Fixed.
2) Delete a BBS was not deleting an existing .REP file when deleting
a BBS. Fixed.
3) Fixed a bug that was causing the 78 and 79th column of the message
to not be there.
New Notes (10/7/90)
1) Changed order of the initialization code in another attempt to
eradicate the /50 bug with macros.
2) Fixed bug that was causing quotes to be boxed/wrapped too short on
BBS's with non-72 character right margins (ie only .QWK BBS's at
this time)
3) Added "tear line" to tag line. I don't really care one way or
another, but apparently some utilities look for this tearline
to strip off excess tag lines.
New Notes (10/6/90)
1) Kill tagged messages' confirmation box (ie, "Do you want to Kill..")
was interpreting Esc as "yes". Oops!
2) Also, if you did answer "No" to the confirmation box, it messed up
the windows upon leaving the reader.
3) Fixed bug that was causing the mouse not to be able to go to the
bottom half of the screen when in 50 or 43 line mode.
4) When deleting a BBS, it was not removing the corresponding file in
the QWKSTUFF directory. Fixed.
New Notes (10/3/90)
1) (R) is now stripped off the front of subject lines.
2) Added "up and down" buttons to the header.
New Notes (10/1/90)
1) RE: is now stripped off the front of subject lines.
2) Apparently, when I fixed Control-K,W so that it would append
files, I also "fixed" it so that it bombed whenever you wrote
to a new file. fixed again.
3) Due to popular demand, added two mouse "hot spots" in the header
area - if you have a mouse driver enabled, you will get a left
and right arrow on the right side of your header. Clicking on
the left arrow takes you to the previous message (just like
hitting the left arrow on the keyboard) and clicking on the
right arrow takes you to the next message (just like hitting
the right arrow on the keyboard).
4) John Hancock is now supported. Simply define it as a DOS hotkey,
then, if you want to use a JH tag line, activate the hotkey, if
you want to use the internal tag line engine, don't activate the
hotkey. Note that you can activate the hotkey as many times as
you like; megamail will always use the last one you leave with
JH.
New Notes (9/30/90)
1) Reader now determines ID from CONTROL.DAT instead of filename on
.QWK packets. This should take care of the problem with renamed
download files generating weird .REP files.
2) As per Tim Farley's suggestion, External Editing has been added
to the help menu while entering message text. I also noticed
that spell checking was not on that menu, so I added it as well.
3) Reader now properly detects an "aborted" (ie not saved) message
from the external editor. (oops!) This one is also thanks to Tim
Farley of SemWare.
New Notes (9/24/90)
1) Due to popular demand, if there is only one BBS in the reader,
instead of presenting a pick list with only one BBS on it, the
reader will assume that you want that BBS.
2) Added the /NOIMPORT function - when /NOIMPORT is present on the
command line, automatic import operations will be suspended for
that session only. Handy if you want to start up the reader but
not import a packet that's waiting. Mostly for testing purposes.
3) The reader now is smart enough to handle old EZ users' bad habits.
If you delete a .REP file, the next time the reader is run it will
detect this and go ahead and clear the export flags for that BBS.
This allows EZ users to continue to function as they had been
before, that is, deleting .REP files after they uploaded them.
New Notes (9/23/90)
1) Fixed bug in the "Did you upload this packet" routine for .QWK files
that was causing a lock-up on occasion.
2) Due to a request, the block-write function now appends instead of
overwriting...please let me know if there is any objection to this
change.
3) When a new BBS is added, the margin is properly set at 72 characters.
Check and see if this fixes the bug; I didn't verify it.
4) Due to popular demand, when a new .QWK BBS is encountered, a little
window comes up and asks if you want to add the BBS and import the
packet. This should eliminate the problem with renamed .QWK's adding
extra BBS's to the reader.
5) Checked both QMail 4.0 and MarkMail doors - they put one less than the
number of conferences as line #11 in the control.dat, not the number
of conferences. The reader now adjusts for this. Of course, it is
probably just a misinterpretation on my part - since the .QWK format
is so heavily rooted in the PCBoard world, I suspect that what line
#11 really is is the "highest conference number." If my understanding
is correct, this should get rid of the missing conference bug.
6) It has been reported to me that there are still significant problems
with the /50 and /43 command line parameters. There's little I can
do if they are simply not effective on your EGA/VGA card; I am simply
calling the Turbo Pascal routine to switch the screen into 43 or 50
line mode, and it is failing on your card. If, on the other hand,
it is still corrupting your DOS hotkeys, I'd like to know the gorey
details so that I can attempt to fix it (again!). Thanks.
New Notes (8/28/90)
1) Fixed bug that was causing a fatal error after pressing Alt-Q, Alt-T,
R, Alt-L, Alt-Q, Esc.
New Notes (8/27/90) -> DELETE YOUR BBS.LST FILE WHEN UPGRADING TO THIS VER!
1) Added ability for the reader to have variable right margins depending
on the BBS system. Currently, all MegaMail door IDs have right margins
of 72 characters, and all .QWK IDs have right margins of 79 characters.
In the future, the MegaMail door will allow the sysop to configure the
right margin max much as the sysop can configure the max number of lines
now. As a result of this, you must delete your BBS.LST file when
upgrading to this version, unless you are upgrading directly from 2.01,
in which case you can use the new, updated upgrade facility.
2) Cleaned up the display of dates in the News/Bulletins/New files display
and added a display of file size when selecting the item to actually
view.
3) Slight change to the way the QWKSTUFF directory .ZIP's are handled -
now instead of including specific files such as bulletins and news, all
files in the .QWK packet that do not pertain to mail (ie MESSAGES.DAT and
*.NDX) are placed in the .ZIP. This facilitates several things, among
which are the "services" offered by the QMail 4 door.
4) Added two new configuration options : Text File Viewer and Text File
Viewer Swaps. This allows you to install an external text file viewer
to use when reading news/bulletins/new files. (LIST is reccommended!)
Before shelling out, the reader will copy the file to be viewed
into the file VIEW.TXT. After the shell is completed, the reader will
delete VIEW.TXT.
5) Fixed bug that would sometimes cause the MegaMail tag line to be left
off of messages when uploaded to a .QWK board.
6) Added option to the BBS Menu - Reset - will reset the export status
of a BBS. Intended primarily for use when you upload but don't download
from a .QWK board.
7) Added option to configuration - Keep .QWK Contents - governs whether
the reader keeps the contents of the .QWK files in the QWKSTUFF directory
at all. If you never plan on reading bulletins, news files, or news,
turn this off and you won't have to keep those files or that directory
around.
8) Added option to configuration - Generate Empty .REP files - this governs
whether the automatic import/export system will generate empty .REP files
if there are no messages to be exported. This is primarily expected to be
useful for people writing scripts who want to guarantee that a .REP file
exists so that they can upload it, even if it's empty.
9) Added option to configuration - Ask if U/Led .REPs - this option, when
turned on, causes the reader to ask the user about each .REP file in the
upload directory when the reader is run. If the user responds that the
.REP file has been uploaded, it is deleted and the export flags are reset
inside the reader. If this option is turned on and you answer the
questions truthfully, you'll be in good shape using the automatic import/
export management for .QWK packets, as long as you upload whenever you
download, which is very logical. (ie, it's now ok to upload and not
download because the reader will ask you the next time it's run if the
packet has been uploaded and delete it, but it's still not ok to download
and not upload because the reader will delete your .REP when it sees
that you have downloaded a .QWK)
New Notes (8/26/90) I'm seeking information on how the various doors
handle off-line conference configuration. Ken
told me about the number after ADD for markmail;
please send me any text files you have on the subject
of off-line mail configuration or any information you
have on off-line mail configuration in .QWK packets
so I can improve MM's off-line mail configuration for
.QWK packets. Thanks!
1) Added 3 new configuration options:
-> Swap Directory - this directory indicates the directory (and
disk) that the reader will swap to when swapping to DISK
during a shell.
-> .QWK Directory - this directory indicates the directory that
the reader will use to store .QWK packet bulletins, new file
listings, and NEWS.
-> External Editor Directory - this directory indicates the
directory that the reader will save the MESSAGE.TXT and
REFER.TXT files to. Note that this includes the writing of
the MESSAGE.TXT during spell checking.
2) Fixed double highlighted S's on the Quick Scan help menu.
3) Was able to track the DOS hotkey bug down to happening when
I specified /50 on the command line. Fixed it by re-arranging
the initialization code.
4) Fixed bug that was causing .QWK bbs's to ALWAYS be exported...
(because there was no .UL file!!!). Fixed.
5) Added support for new files, bulletins, and news. A new option off
the BBS menu, News/Bulletins/New files, allows you to access this
information. Note that you will only be able to access it if you
have downloaded this type of information and imported it into the
reader.
New Notes (8/25/90)
1) Added support for .QWK packets. The reader will now recognize them
and work with them transparently.
Couple of notes:
1) Since .QWK doesn't support the echo flag, it's meaningless in
.QWK bbs's.
2) Since .QWK has pitiful conference selection off-line, you'll
probably want to do it through the respective .QWK door. The
only thing you can do off-line is "Add" and "Drop" a
conference, which is facilitated through the BBS->Conference
menu in the reader.
3) BIG Question: How should the auto import/export engine handle
.REP files? Right now, it appends them until it receives a
.QWK packet from the BBS - the same way .UL and .DL files are
handled. The problem is that .QWK doors don't force you (and
in fact don't even encourage you) to download when you upload.
Perhaps there should be some sort of "flush" or "reset" option
added to the BBS menu that allows you to reset the export
flags on the messages so that they won't be exported again?
What do you guys think?
4) As of this time, the reader does not support .QWK's news,
welcome, bulletin, or new file displays. Support may or may
not be added in the future for this.
